2007 Moss
Brothers Semillon
Sunday
Age and Sydney Morning Herald 12.8.07 Sally Gudgeon
"This is an appealing example of a Margaret River style, which has
a grassy/herbal pungency. In the mouth, it's flavoursome and
textured with zesty acid and length. Try it with goat's
cheese." |

2005 Single
Vineyard Chardonnay
James Halliday Australian Wine Companion 2008
"An elegant wine, with very good balance and integration of
nectarine and white peach fruit, with cashew/smoky oak.
Excellent line, length and finish. Screwcap.
Rating 94 To 2014." |

2006 Moses Rock
Sauvignon Blanc Semillon
Tony Love Adelaide Advertiser November 2006
**** Four stars - "Shy to begin, thought its true sauvignon
blanc nature can't be hidden forever with this classic WA blend
exuding lantana bush and the district notes of the variety tempered
a tad with a layer of semillon-source lemon pie flavours.
It's crying out for a party."
Peter Forrestal - "Quaff 2007"
This is a very good example of the classic Margaret River white
blend - perhaps a bit riper and fruitier than most but none the
worse for that. It is bright, focused and fresh with those
ripe tropical fruits, some herbal, grassy characters and gentle
lingering finish." |

2006 JANEMOSS
Semillon Sauvignon Blanc
James Halliday Australian Wine Companion 2008
"Clean and fragrant; gentle fruit expression in total
contrast to the Moses Rock (2006); gooseberry and kiwifruit
with a balanced, dry, crisp finish. Screwcap. Rating 90
To 2010."

2004 JANEMOSS
Pinot Noir
James Halliday Australian Wine Companion 2008
'Undoubted varietal character in a region which struggles to
express this; spice/bramble/forest nuances to plummy fruit;
all in all, quite and achievement. Screwcap.
Rating 89 To 2010.

2003 Moss Brothers
Verdelho
The Age Uncorked Spring Wine Guide * * * *
This Margaret River wine has an aroma of straw and dried herbs,
with a hint of spice, but avoids the common green herbaceous
aromas. It’s a very good verdelho with plenty of flavour and
richness, assisted by a well-judged touch of sweetness. Four
stars.
James Halliday Wine Compendium 2005
A particularly good example of the variety; potent, powerful and
rich; concentrated fruit salad flavours; good balance. |
2001 Moss
Brothers Semillon
"The 2001 semillon is probably the flagship variety for Moss
Brothers. It was produced from a dry vintage and is picked early
but it still tips the scales at 13.5 per cent alcohol. It show
lanolin, lemony citrussy and herbal aromas, while the rather
viscous palate offers cape gooseberry flavours with savoury citrus
and herbal notes. It is definitely a food style and has enough
oomph to tackle well-spiced and herb dishes"
Bill Thompson, The West Australian 26.05.02 |

2002 Moss
Brother Semillon
"Here is a delicious, summery Margaret River semillon without too
much pungency. It has gooseberry and capsicum fragrance, and is
crisp and tangy in the mouth with a dry finish. It's a very
refreshing warm-weather sipper"
The Age Epicure, Nov 2002 Uncorked. |

2002 Moss
Brothers Semillon
"Margaret River is a pretty, forested place, with the wild Indian
Ocean always audible just through the trees. It gives no hint of
the toughness of its gravelly soils, which make intense, bone-dry
semillons in the best years. Given the cool, fry conditions of
2002, Jeff, Fay, David and Jane Moss have taken the absolute
advantage of all this to give us a flinty , lemony, extremely tight
and fine semillon which will last for many years"
Philip White Adelaide Advertiser Oct 17 2002. |
| |
2003 Moss
Brothers Semillon
"As well as that typical rich varietal peachiness, this ‘Westie’
has complex mineral base tones – the terroir as much as the ferment
– in aroma and palate, so flinty and acrid it reminds me of
gunsmoke. The lush palate is long and loaded with character"
93+ points Philip White, The Advertiser Top 100

2002 Moss
Brothers Moses Rock White Chardonnay Semillon
"Despite their understated "aw shucks why us" atmosphere, Moss
Brothers constantly produce wines which quietly draw respect and
praise. This clever, honest blend shows the creamy peach of
Margaret River chardonnay to its best, enhanced by the lemon butter
characters of that district's best semillon. The wine draws slowly
to a long tapering, tingling acid finish, firm dry and direct, yet
appetizing as well as satisfying"

2001 Moss
Brothers Premium Chardonnay
"Savoury aromas with cheesy/leesy nuances accompanying the
cool-climate melon and white peach notes. Shows an oily texture on
the palate with good flavour length to the chary finish"

1998 Moss
Brothers Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot
'Minty Red'. "The vineyard lies in the heart of the Margaret River
in Western Australia, in the Wilyabrup Valley. This particular area
is considered to be the jewel in the crown of region. Ripe licorice
and minty aromas combine with a nicely balanced palate and a long
lingering finish".

1999 Moss
Brothers Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot
"The Margaret River winery Moss Brothers continues its impressive
run with its cabernet sauvignon merlot. The 1999 vintage (95
points) is testimony to the great vintage in Margaret River. Richly
coloured, the first whiff of the bouquet signals an outstanding
wine, with great balance, between the varietal fruit inputs and
oak, ranging through cedar, blackberry and blackcurrant. The richly
textured and structured palate lives up to the bouquet in every
way"
James Halliday, Halliday's choice The Weekend
Australian. |

1999 Moss
Brothers Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot
"Moss by name moss by nature: this Bordeaux-style blend from
Wilyabrup has primeval, earthy base tones of shiitake and
mushroomy, moist earth. But its high fruity tones are bright
raspberry and cranberry. It's fresh, audacious, smooth and
alluring. The Palate starts silky and slender, and finishes with
quite dry tannin, which balances all that lively, complex fruit
perfectly. FOOD: Venison fillet with field mushroom and roast
parsnip. Drink 2004 to 2010"

1999 Moss
Brothers Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot
"The 1999 Moss Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot is a virtual giant of a
wine in all respects but, once again, has a degree of elegance.
Crushed berried and cedary oak provide a bold nose, the palate
starts with rich and sweet crushed blackberry and cassis fruit,
finishing dry as a bone with firm tannins and balancing acid. It is
a sip-by-sip wine that can be enjoyed now or cellared for at least
seven to eight years. Whenever you choose to pull the cork, order
the best aged-beef your budget allows"
Bill Thompson, The West Australian 26.05.02 |
| |
2000 Moss
Brothers Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot
"Mostly cabernet and merlot with a small amount of cabernet franc
to lift the nose. The aroma is fragrant and perfumed with
attractive wild briary nuances. The palate is perfectly weighted
and hits the right balance between some attractive oak and nice
fruit. Super wine"
Ray Jordan, Western Australia's Best, November
2002. |

2000 Moss
Brothers Shiraz
"If there was any doubt - which increasingly there isn't - that
Margaret River can produce excellent shiraz, then this wine totally
puts the question to bed. There really is very little that Margaret
River can't do, and when you taste a wine like this you say what
everyone's saying: watch out South Australia. Plummy, chocolately,
charity-generous and primed by a gentle film of black pepper
flavours, there's a rub of cherry-red brightness and lots of
simple, attractive, exactly-what-you're-looking-for Shiraz
definition. Bloody beauty. Drink: Now-2006"
91 points. July edition Winefront monthly 2002.

2000 Moss
Brothers Shiraz
"The first Moss Brothers Shiraz was a 1998 vintage, made from both
young vines on the property and fruit from selected growers with
more mature vineyards. I was impressed by the maiden vintage and am
equally enamoured of the 2000 Moss Brothers Shiraz. It shows the
richer fruit flavours of the northerly Wilyabrup (proposed) sub
region, with aromas of ripe plums and dark cherries overlaid with
mocha chocolate and a hint of leather. The tannins are still a tad
firm, but there is fruit weight to match; so enjoy it now with a
slice of rare roast beef and horseradish cream, or cellar for five
to eight years"
Peter Bourne, "onwine" Australian Gourmet Traveller February
2000. |

2000 Moss
Brothers Shiraz
"Moss Brothers have done well with their shiraz and their third
release will lose them no friends. It is a rich and powerful wine
but with some Margaret River restraint. Teal blackcurrant aromas
and flavours dominate. There are hints of chocolate, dark plum and
Szechwan pepper on an essentially savoury palate. It's terrific
drinking right now but it has the structure to handle medium-term
cellaring very well"
Bill Thompson, The West Australian 26.05.02 |
| |
2000 Moss
Brothers Shiraz
"David and Jane Moss have made some very good shiraz wines, and
this is up with the best. Blackcurrant fruit and toasty, slight
smoky oak are inviting on the nose and mirrored on the palate. The
fruit is rich, and well supported by fine tannins. Structure and
length of the finish are impressive, and while this is a big fellow
at 14.5% Alc., it is not over the top"
Bill Thompson Australian Sunday Times October 14,
2001. |

2000 Moss
Brothers Dry Verdelho
"If there is one variety that has made a Real statement in Western
Australia, it has to be Verdelho, the famous grape from Madeira. It
really delivers some-thing special. From Margaret River, the Moss
Brothers Verdelho 2000 is an excellent wine that delivers lots of
classic tropical fruit, with ripe melon and subtle passion-fruit.
There is flavor plus here!"
Ray Jordan The Western Australian October 6,
2001. |

2001 Moss
Brothers Dry Verdelho
"An interesting and enjoyable wine that is a good example of what
the variety achieves in cooler climes. Although there are some
tropical fruit and grassy aromatics, it is the delicious aroma and
flavour of ripe blood orange that shows through in this wine. It is
a bold wine (14 percent alcohol) and it's wonderfully refreshing,
with loads of fruit acid well balanced against satisfying fruit
flavours. It could well be enjoyed with traditional roast pork or
seafood"
Bill Thompson, The West Australian 26.05.02. |

1993 Moss
Brothers Semillon
"Moss Brothers semillon from the Margaret River district in Western
Australia is something of an x factor. It shows great promise and
could well eclipse those made in the Hunter. This wine is
beautifully balanced with a herbal nose and a clean gooseberry
flavoured palate. The finish adds supporting acid and gives an
indication that the wine could be cellared for up to 10 years. But
it is fine to drink now"
Mark Shield, Pick of the Week, The Age June 1994 |

1991 Moss
Brothers Semillon
"The first thing that struck me about this wine was the fruit
intensity. It has been made in a style that doesn't require years
to develop a generous character, and its immediate appeal demands
the wine be consumed young. Refreshing fruit characters of citrus
and delicate herbaceous overtones are present in both the bouquet
and palate. The fruit intensity of the wine coupled with the ample
acidity, makes for a wine that is simply delicious anytime, day or
night, any season"
Andrew Wood, Divine Food & Wine issue 2 1993 |
