Moses
Rock lies on the coast 5km west of Moss Brothers. Long time
local residents claim Moses was a black stallion (circa 1920) who,
with a small group of mares, roamed the bush land along the coast
and in particular the area adjacent to the granite outcrop known as
Moses Rock.

The palate is delicate and flavoursome with fine sustaining acid.
Very good value for money.”

Vintage by Jeff Moss
Vintage
is about grapes and wine and these are dependent on the weather and
a quick reference to the build up to vintage revealed erratic
weather. Spring was drier and cooler than the same period in 2008
and this pattern continued through until our harvest began on
2/03/09.
Our
vintage was compressed into five short weeks beginning on the 2/03
with Chardonnay and ending after a week’s break on the 15/04 with
Grenache.
Once
again yields were excellent from the stand point of flavour in
whites and both flavour and intensity of colour in the reds and Nav
our wine maker was delighted with the ripe luscious fruit delivered
to the winery... A wine makers dream comes true.
This
vintage several modifications were made with much more “hands free”
movement of fruit through the various processes in the winery. This
reduced labour has resulted in wines with a finer structure than
hitherto and marks a significant step up in quality
terms.
2009
marks the 61st vintage since my wine odyssey began. As
with Greek mythology we still seek the Golden Fleece however in
lieu of this mythical prize we have enjoyed an abundance of Golden
Moments.
Wine
Makers Notes
The
sauvignon blanc and semillon were made into wine separately.
Careful attention was paid to juice settling and handling so that
the fruit maintained its best and freshest qualities. VL3, X5
and QA23 yeast was selected to maintain and enhance the character
of the fruit and the fermentation was slow and steady, again, to
maximise the character of the fruit. The wine once fermented
was kept on lees for two weeks, stirring regularly to give middle
palate fullness to the wine.
The
two varieties were blended together post fermentation to create a
wine that incorporates the best of both.
