RIVER
CABERNET
MERLOT
This
blend expresses regionality and the art of the wine maker in
combining grape varieties which complement and enhance each
other.
This
historic Bordeaux blend translates here into a Margaret River
classic. Judicious wine making has resulted in a

being the everyday drinking wine of the wine expert.
Reviews
- Australian
Gourmet Pages Franz Scheurer June 2008 “If I were a label drinker
then this one would sing to me. It's a brilliant design,
eye-catching and meaningful and the wine does the label justice”.
2007
Vintage by Jeff Moss
Vintage
2007 reflected the dynamic nature of grape growing and wine making
as the influence of El Nino became manifest.
Winter
2007 was mild and dry with rainfall one third of the anticipated.
Spring was mild and wind free. This enabled the vines to flower and
set fruit in ideal conditions. Similar conditions prevailed
throughout the season. Light sporadic rainfall maintained the vines
in excellent condition without the wind damage to foliage which
evident in some years.
Temperatures
remained generally below average although two periods in January
with temperatures above 40 for several days tested the resilience
of the vines. Fortunately our vines now mature at 22 years with
deep penetrating root systems coped well with these unusual
conditions.
Harvest
began three weeks ahead of schedule with both whites and reds
ripening simultaneously. Adjustments to winery procedures and
mechanical harvesting enabled the winery to cope with no disruption
to the processing schedule and to deliver some outstanding white
wines; wines of elegance and finesse. Reds will take longer to show
their full potential however in terms of colour bouquet and flavor
we have some outstanding wines.
Wine
Makers Notes
The
fruit was picked at an average of 13 degrees Baume. The grapes
where hand picked in the last week of March having achieved
required ripeness levels. The yeast mainly F15 was selected to
maximize the potential of the wine style. After the alcoholic
fermentation the wine received further 10 days maceration and
transferred into 2 and 3 year-old French barriques for malolactic
fermentation. Lees stirred to incorporate texture and fullness the
wine was matured for 18 months in older oak prior to
bottling.
